FOR
PARENTS |
|
|
 |
|
|
I'm a parent. Do I have to pay to download a story?
No. The website that hosts the story pays us a license fee
which allows you to download and print the story free.
Why aren't your webstories available on www.storycircus.com?
We license our stories to corporate clients, and they in turn
make them available to parents via their websites. (If we
didn’t, we would have to charge parents a fee). If you're
a parent in search of stories, or a company considering licensing
some, please view a sample story on our home
page.
Why don't you make your webstories interactive?
Our stories are primarily a parenting resource, designed for
parents to print off and read to their children in bed. Although
children do read them on-line, we know that most of our end-users
are parents who print the stories, so there's no need for
us to animate the images on-line.
Why would I want a webstory when books look and feel
so much nicer?
We offer stories of equal quality to those available in books,
but ours are more accessible, more convenient and free. We
know that most parents - whether they're in paid work or not
- are chronically short of time. We've developed a resource
that saves them time, effort and money by making high quality
stories available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anywhere
in the world.
Our stories can be useful in a range of situations:
Problem |
 |
Solution |
 |
You're at home with small or sick children |
 |
Read a story on-line with the kids. Print black and
white versions for them to colour in. |
 |
You don’t have internet access at home |

|
Visit your local library with the kids and read the
story on-line. |
 |
You leave work too late to visit a bookshop |

|
Print a story in the office and take it home to read
it to your child |
 |
You're abroad on business |

|
Go on-line, find a story, save it as a PDF, and e-mail
it to your child. |
 |
You're on a family holiday, miles from any bookshops |

|
Visit an internet cafe and print a story to read
with your kids at bedtime |
 |
Do you want to see webstories one day displace books?
No, quite the opposite. We believe in the primacy of reading,
and we aim to make it easier for parents to read with their
children by delivering stories to their PCs, at home or at
work. In this way, we hope to instil a love of reading in
young children that will stay with them all their lives.
I'm having trouble printing your webstories. Can
you advise?
Please refer to the 'Help' button on the front page of the
individual story, or click on the printer icon at the bottom
of each page. Full printing instructions are given there.

FOR
TEACHERS |
|
|
 |
|
|
I'm a teacher. How do I use your
stories in class?
You can use the stories on-line in the computer suite. Or
download them, print them, and make photocopies for each pupil.
Stories in our series Living
With Landmines are accompanied by teachers’
notes linked to the national curricula of England, Scotland,
Wales and Northern Ireland.

FOR
CORPORATE CLIENTS |
|
|
 |
|
|
What type of companies are your clients?
Our web clients fall into four groups: Retailers, Charities,
Intranets and Educational sites.
We also license stories to kids' magazines, television production
companies and ad agencies.
How much do you charge your clients for webstories?
We don't publish a ratecard, but we'll be pleased to discuss
your company's individual needs one-to-one. Please contact
us on info@storycircus.com
What is the upload procedure like?
We supply content to our clients on-line for them to upload.
We don't upload the content ourselves, so we don't require
security clearance to access to your websites.
Do you write stories to commission?
Yes. We're currently developing a bespoke story based on a
company logo for one client, and educational stories based
on real historical figures for another. Let us know your requirements,
and we'll discuss with you what we can offer.
Do you work with publishers?
We do indeed. We are currently working with Andersen Press,
Orchard Books and Frances Lincoln Publishing on webstories
abridged from published books.
Who owns secondary rights in your webstories?
In the case of most of our original stories, we do. Where
we abridge an existing work for the Web, or create content
to fulfill a specific brief, the situation is more complex.
Book publishers, TV companies, merchandising companies and
ad agencies interested in specific stories are invited to
contact our rights department on info@storycircus.com

FOR
CHARITIES and SPONSORS |
|
|
 |
|
|
We work extensively with charities and companies interested
in Corporate Social Responsibility. We can produce stories
to support a charity’s educational objectives, and back this
up with teacher’s notes linking it to the curriculum, as we
did for Adopt-A-Minefield (UK). For examples, see http://www.landmines.org.uk/ChildrensStories.
If you work with a charity with an educational remit, and
would like to explore the possibilities, please contact us
at info@storycircus.com

I'm a new writer. Can I send in a story?
Sorry, no. We only work with professional writers. Our contributors

Mayo. To maintain our high standards and our reputation for
quality and originality, we do not work with new or unpublished
authors.
I'm a new writer. Would you comment on my work?
Sorry, no. We don't have the resources to offer editorial
advice on work that is not commissioned for our use. Try some
of the many writer-driven sites on the Web.
I'm a professional writer. Can I send you my stories?

needs and do not accept unsolicited work. If you're a published

you our editorial guidelines and appoint an editor to work
